Tensile Testing of Metallic Materials with M300 Extensometer (EN 10002-1)

EN 10002-1 is a European standard that specifies a method for tensile testing metallic materials. It defines the mechanical properties which can be determined at ambient temperature. The test involves straining a specimen in tension, generally to fracture, for the purpose of determining one or more mechanical properties.

For tensile testing of metals in accordance with EN 10002-1 with an automatic extensometer, we recommend using a SATEC Series LX or KN Model testing machine with the M300 automatic extensometer, and our Partner Software. Suitable specimen grips include wedge or side-acting, and may be mechanically or hydraulically operated.

Our LX and KN Model systems are high performance load frames with high bandwidth Digital Signal Processing (DSP) based electronics with a calibrated range down to 1/500th of load cell capacity. This provides the user the ability to test down to very low loads using a single load cell.

The Instron M300 is suitable for almost all samples of a gauge length (Lo) from 10 mm (0.39 in) to 200 mm (7.87 in). Its low clamping forces combined with high measurement accuracy makes it highly suitable for testing a wide range of specimens from Rebar to small, notch sensitive test samples. The M300 provides the user with the ability to test many different guage lengths and automatically attach to the specimen. This feature saves the user time and increases the accuracy of testing as it limits mistakes that can be made by manually attaching and removing a typical clip on extensometer.  Thus the M300 increases the producitivy and throughput of the test system and improves reliability of the test results by reducing variability.

In 2009 EN 10002-1 was superseded by ISO 6892-1
